Around the World …

We have had this blog almost a year now.

Although, if you try to pull out a first couple of months, good luck. Unfortunately, I erased everything when I upgraded WordPress.

I am eyeing changing the template once more, taking it back to what it used to be, and customizing the look more. So, keep you eyes peeled for that.

Things are busy in our household. I think we both are headed towards some clamer waters. Not to mention, we are going to be stretching our legs a bit and do some traveling. We are looking at some treks home to Georgia, Baltimore, historic Colonial Williamsburg, Newport News (home to upstanding citizens Mike Vick and Allen Iverson), and hopefully we will get to the beach (some beach, any beach) before the summer is out. Not to mention, once we transfer ownership of David’s car to us, I have a feeling we will get around the region a bit more.

Back to the blog. I run Google Analytics for giggles (it’s how I get my jollies). I don’t know everything about the data because, well, I am not completely web savvy. Not to mention, I really don’t have a need to know my ROI, make content goals, etc.

But, I am always intrigued about where our views come from. I have a feeling that the information we get is not completely correct, that there is some IP masking tom-foolery going on.

For instance, we have had “hits” from multiple countries.

So, can anyone explain this? Or, if you are from a foreign country (or even state, North Jersey and Ohio – Hello!) give us a little shout.

Stomach Turns in the Windy City

I made it! I went to Chicago, presented, and came back in one piece. Let’s just say that I have been pretty nervous about this trip for a long time. First, I was nervous about whether the paper would be accepted. Then, I was nervous about getting the paper finished. And finally, I was nervous about presenting that paper. I have experienced quite a lot of anxiety regarding this event.

On the day of the presentation, I woke up at 8am and thought about what would be the best way to make 7 hours go by quickly. I picked up some breakfast at the hotel Starbucks and proceeded to do several hours of school work. And, the time crept by.

I tend to get nervous in public speaking situations no matter how much I rationalize that everything will be okay. I know it will be okay, but I can’t get myself to react any differently. In these times, all I can do is pray for some peace and ask others to do the same for me.  So, I left the hotel room 20 minutes prior to my presentation in order to ride an elevator down three floors. Of course I was early, but surprisingly, by the time I made it to the room, nerves got a lot better. And, then I met the other members of the panel, presented, and received some good feedback. And, then it was over!

I’m hoping that these things get easier in time. The first one is out of the way, and that is a super feeling:)

The rest of the trip was very nice, and I had a lot of fun once my roommates for the weekend showed up. It’s much better to experience these conferences with friends.  So here are some pics from the trip.

Sweet business cards designed by Will. The phone number is wrong, so don’t try to call me.

Chicago style pizza with veggies! I loved it way more than I remembered loving it the first time I tasted it nearly 4 years ago!

I can’t believe it’s been 4 years since Will, Ben, Chasidy and I went to Chicago for spring break. It was a lot of fun, and we saw a lot of things…meaning we did a TON of walking. And, it was FREEZING. The picture below turned out to be one of mine and Will’s favorites. This picture says it all about how I felt regarding the bad weather and bad haircut. Enjoy.
