Comings and goings

I’veĀ  had “blogging” on my list of things to do for a few weeks now. With the start of the semester (I’m almost four weeks in now) and a “little” data entry side project, I’ve been busy during the day and evening. Finally! I have some time. I will multitask…blog…and watch Top Chef.

So, what’s happened in the past few weeks?

For one, I found out that I passed my comprehensive exam! The news was fantastic and such a relief. I am so glad the task is out of the way. I have one more field exam to take (hopefully in August), and then, nothing will be in the way of me and dissertation writing…except me. I’ll have to figure that out as it comes…

As said before, another semester began…but with a slow start. In the first week, my first class was cancelled due to snow!!! Then, my second class was canceled permanently due to low enrollment. Finally, I had a class Thursday of that week. It’s been a different kind of semester, with two research method classes and no substantive courses. In addition to class, I’m still working at the journal and frantically (but slowly) trying to revamp my paper for the Midwest Political Science Association Conference in April.

And, finally, I turned 25 a couple of weeks ago. It was a good day…filled with birthday calls and a little fun with Will, who took the day off. Will, David and Cousin Andrew and I also went to celebrate at Two Amy’s (an amazing pizza place) the following weekend. We topped off the evening with a little game of Settler’s, which I won for the first time.

That’s enough writing…here are some random pics from the past few weeks…

I was pointed to this video the other day in a column on ESPN.com. You need to watch it all the way through and before you read the rest of this. Do it. Now.

Brittany and I have a tradition. I have to admit, it is a little screwy considering who we are and what we like.

Just about every year since we have known each other, we have both had some interest in watching the NBA All Star Slam Dunk Contest.

I really only bring it up because she asked me about it last week and it happens to be tonight.

Neither of us are excessive basketball fans. I keep tabs on the NBA every now and then. Collegiately, I have been to many of games in my day, at the Stegasaurus but when your team is as sorry as Jim Harrick Jr. exam, it is pretty easy to lose interest quickly.

So, why the flash and pomp of the creative dunk is so intriguing to us is beyond me.
