Fashionista Weds in Classic City

Updates seem to be few and far between these days. Not sure if it’s the lack of material or lack of time. Anyhow, I have a little of both today, so here goes.

This past weekend involved the wedding festivities of one of my best friends Melissa and her fiance, Eric. I have known Melissa since the seventh grade. We quickly realized that we were the only kids in our homeroom class that actually cared about our school work/grades (this sounds snooty, maybe nerdy). While I had a singular focus in school, Melissa had other interests: clothes and makeup. Soon enough, I came to share her interests and found myself at the mall with her most weekends. She saved me from fashion oblivion. (Now, I have a husband who keeps tabs on my fashion sense.)

Melissa eventually became my college roommate for four years and a very loyal friend. I was so happy to be able to share this weekend with her.

The fun started with a bridal luncheon in Atlanta on Friday. After a warm meal of chicken pot pie, we headed to Athens to check in to the hotel and get ready for the rehearsal dinner. On Saturday, we danced, danced, danced at the Classic Center reception after Eric and Melissa tied the knot. After the reception, Will and I went downtown to meet up with some friends.

I was tired when it was all over but–it was a blast. I had the opportunity to see and spend time with some of my closest friends. Here are some pics from the weekend:

The last time I had entrusted my precious tresses in the hands of a man was probably about 12 years ago (El Matador’s).

That is when I went to a barber shop. I know, a few of you out there may see this, especially your modern day masculine man, as very un-manly, but you have to face the music. You certainly get what you pay for when it comes to a shave and a haircut (two bits!)

Trust me, when I went one of the many local Great Clips around the greater Athens area my sophmore year in college, I was on the receiving end of what was dubbed the “reverse mullet”. That is right, party in the front, business in the back.

For years, I went to Dee’s Downtown back in Thomaston. I guess it is something on fringe of being a “beauty parlor” but more a salon. I kept going back there a few years deep in college until I decided it was really not worth it to dictate my haircuts based on when I went home for occasional weekend.

Although, I am certainly gracious to Mrs. Dee as she would wait for me to scoot back to Thomaston, even waiting after normal business hours.

So, after the Great Clips fiasco, I started hunting out hair cutterys until I stumbled upon Bob Salon in Athens. Intrigued by their Flash website and funky house music (okay, not really but if you do click on the link, keep in mind that Bob essentially split into two and since then, their website has taken a giant step backwards) and at the suggestion of my friend Scott, I made an appointment. After a few visits I was convinced that paying more than $10 for a haircut is not necessarily a bad thing.

After the aforementioned split, I went to The Republic but further decided it was not worth waiting on a haircut everytime I happened to drop in to Athens (which, by the way, is not very often … if you have not already surmised that fact).

So, at the suggestion of our friend Adrienne, Brittany and I started to go to Bang Salon down at the Verizon Center. After getting my hair “styled” by two ladies, I decided it was time to go back to a man.

I think guys reach an age where they have certain hold ups about who cuts their hair. Maybe it is just me, but I was to the point where it had to be a woman cutting my hair. And if it was a man, it better had been an older gent with a red, blue, and white striped pole out front.

But, back to the current cut. I figured, who knows a man’s hair better than, well, a man?

Bingo. Best … cut … ever.

Maybe not best ever but it was pretty good.

I know, I know. I have been extremely delinquent in blogging recently.

Yet, I promise loosely vow to you I will try harder. I have a range of things to blog about so it is not like I am lost for subjectional matter.

After painlessly voting (surprise, surprise) this past Tuesday, I cashed in on my free cup of Joe at one of the five Starbucks that is within the half mile diameter around our apartment.

Saturday morning Brittany woke me up early and prodded me into going down to the Mall to take some photos of the newly minted fall foliage.
