Staying up until the wee hours

I’m writing to stay awake. Last night I went to bed at 9:30. I could do the same tonight–or I could stay up and finish watching the Biggest Loser–which is what I’m trying to do. Nothing like some quality reality television to keep you from turning in early.

Well him and her have experienced quite the emotional roller coaster ride this past week. When Will called me with the news of him getting a job on Friday, I couldn’t help but think: it’s a miracle–which led me to think of How I Met Your Mother’s season 3 finale. While Will getting a job may not be as miraculous as Barney having a pencil in flight land up his nose (Ed. Note – It’s on YouTube!), it’s pretty spiffy despite what Robin might say. Sorry if you don’t watch the show–this paragraph probably made no sense.

In a nut shell, we are thankful for a sweet answer to our prayers and for the family and friends that lent their encouragement.

And so we went to The Dairy at the Maryland Visitor Center today. This place serves up ice cream with a sinful amount of fat content. It’s pretty yummy…but awfully pricy. We each had two scoops. Will tried cherry vanilla and pistachio. I had the midnight madness (w/chocolate ganache) and fridge fever (vanilla with brownie and chocolate swirl). Don’t my flavors sound so much tastier?

While Will spent the day working on his website, I tried to get some work done on the paper that I want to submit to the midwest political science conference. In between classwork and my job, I do not have much time to devote to it, but the work I do is so slow going. I feel like I will never be finished. There are always things to tweak and change and add. And, I haven’t even finished writing it! I can’t wait to present the paper and have it ripped apart.

Well, I’ve made it to 9:22. Nothing else to report.

Good night.

As most of you know, I am in that awkward time of transition. In this case, it is between jobs.

So in the meantime, in between times, as your doing your work time, I’m doing mine (to paraphrase Whodini for my own purposes).

Now, most people have wondered what happened to the blog. I, myself, have pondered the same thing.

I was attempting to update the publishing platform that powers the blog, WordPress, when apparently I followed the directions incorrectly.

This resulted in having to create a new database and a complete re-install. Fortunately, Web Tech Guru, Pundit, and Authority Ben Trice came to Him & Her’s aid.

I had been planning on giving the blog a visual overhaul, this whole ordeal just forced my hand.

So, what you see as of this posting, is not complete, but we are getting close.

Okay, back to the issue at hand. Because I have little responsibility the next few weeks, I am planning on trying to get out and take some “interesting” photos. What else is driving me is that I have been processing the photos (not the RAW files … unfortunately) in Photoshop a good bit. So, please bear in mind that what I am presenting is not the original file flying fresh off of my card.

I watched The Savages this afternoon. The acting was great but I am starting to question if I am getting tired of the slightly quirky, off-beat dramedy with a melancholy edge. Plot-wise, the movies are pretty formulaic. Nothing surprises me anymore. I think the writing is on the wall.

Earlier, and I mean earlier, I walked down to the Lincoln Memorial and a photo party broke out. It was a small affair.

I accidentally blew up the blog.

Now we are working on piecing it back together.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Check back for updates.
