A Smattering of Culture
Posted by Will on August 8, 2011
For some reason, I had the “bright” idea to take Nola down to the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History. I figured she may get a kick out of the massive collection of stuffed and mounted mammals, shiny gems and minerals, and perhaps a dinosaur fossil or two.
Come to find out, she could care less.
Cousin Andrew came along for the ride and we picked our way through the human rivers of tourists that flooded the museum on a warm, humid Saturday afternoon. It was good catching up with Andrew before he heads abroad and the visit was salvaged with a visit to the small Korea Gallery nestled on the second floor. It’s a permanent exhibition which I find a little odd since it is the only particular ethnic group that has its own dedicated space [Note: After a little bit of Googling, I came across this article that explains that future plans call for a whole hall dedicated to Asian cultures — The article was written four years ago and there are no signs of any progress on this plan].
To round out our “Asian experience”, we meandered up to United States Navy Memorial in Penn Quarter for some refreshments at Teaism.

Giving Andrew the once-over.
