Will’s Take

Today marks exactly a month from Nola’s due date. Essentially, at the musings of one (out of many, I can’t be told this enough) physician, there will not be a situation where she will be delivered past her designated big day. So, that is what I have been running with up until the other day when Brittany gently reminded me that this was just one professional’s position.

Honestly,  I don’t know if I want to hazard a guess if she will be here before or after the 8th. I know our biggest concern is that she arrives safe and healthy. Yet, it is a little nuts to think our family is going to expand to 3 within the matter of weeks. Okay, 4 – sorry, Moses.

The past two weeks, we have been taking the very necessary steps to prepare our pint-sized basement apartment for Nola. This includes constructing the crib and changing table (it’s amazing what you can do with an Allen wrench). If you might recall, putting together pre-fabricated furniture is not exactly my forte. But, with a very large assist from Brittany, muddled with some choice four-letter words, and a marginal amount of elbow grease, we managed to construct the fittings to a state of satisfaction. That being said, we only had to deconstruct the crib and reconstruct it correctly once. Also, what needs to be said is that if you are creating a step-by-step instruction manual then you need to be very sure that your visual information makes absolute sense. Absolute. Sense.

Brittany’s Take

While Will can’t believe it’s almost time for our family to expand, I can’t believe it’s not here already!  I’m ready for her to be here in some respects (mostly physically), but I still have a lot to do before she gets here too!  The last few weeks have been interesting as I grow out of my maternity clothes, wake up sore, and feel a baby pushing on my ribs.  I could go on–pregnancy is just kind of weird.  It’s also pretty miraculous.

It will also be a miracle if I deliver this baby with out a c-section.  According to the estimates given by the doctor, she is already over 6lbs (the 87th percentile), and has a huge head.  I know the estimates can be off, but I have been fairly warned.

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve also been doing a bit of nesting, including the construction activities described by Will.  I am nesting at home and at school–just trying to get a number of things done before her arrival.  Today, I wrote Stata code for 3 hours and put a Diaper Genie together.  I planned for the winter course I’m teaching and reorganized the apartment furniture.  I went to the doctor and I ran a helluva lot of errands.  I always thought nesting meant cleaning.  But, this stuff sounds like nesting, right?

Come on down Nola!
