A Syracuse Sunday Morning

Posted by on June 29, 2010

I went up with Brittany for two of her friends’ wedding in Old Forge, New York. We drove the 8 hours early Saturday morning and stayed in Syracuse, New York that night. A lot of fun was had at the ceremony but we were both glad to crawl into a plush, over-sized king-sized bed after getting momentarily lost downtown.

Home Sweet Home

Will: We have risen out of the squalor (ok, not really a squalor, but it obviously hasn’t been completely satisfactory) of Prince George’s County (A Livable Community!) and into our new abode in the Park View neighborhood. We had a great moving experience (aside from shuffling the boxes we could fit in our dear, little 2 door coupe to our new place every night for a solid week). This is our first move where we did not have any help (aside from hiring a local moving company for the big stuff). In college I moved myself, once, during my second senior year but we probably have three times the possessions I had back then.

I think it would be fair to say that we both are already smitten with our location. When we first began the search, Brittany was definitely more deliberate in seeking out a place in Park View or Petworth. Me? Well, honestly, I kept getting drawn to either the “fashionable” (think Columbia Heights, Capitol Hill, Atlas District) or the familiar (Logan Circle, Mount Vernon Square, Shaw) ignoring, to a small degree, that we have vested interest and commitment to the community we ended up in. I think we are fortunate and blessed to be where we ended up.

All and all, location wise, we are near a handful of our friends, close enough to a Metro, and can walk to bodegas, shops, bars, restaurants, etc. without too long of a stretch of the legs.

Brittany: Just to clarify, we really enjoyed the house in Greenbelt (and have really sacrificed on space here), but we just didn’t ever feel the Greenbelt/suburb love.  And, believe me, there is a lot of it to go around among residents.  People love Greenbelt.  We just loved and missed DC.  So, we’re back!

We live in a basement apartment which is pretty small but has really efficient storage areas–which make it work.  It’s been great to walk to the post office, coffee shop, metro; and it will be even better when it’s not hot and/or humid.  We’ve had a happy first week and hope to stay here for another 2 years.  Plus, moving in consecutive years just stinks (and it’s expensive).

Check it out!

Our new bedroom.

Moses has found himself a new place to hang.

Living area — "Hardwood" floor!

Look at all of that counter space!

Once Upon a June 16th

Posted by on June 16, 2010

Today marks the third anniversary of our wedding day. As I remember, we enjoyed surprisingly non-humid, mildly hot Georgia weather on that Saturday. I remember mimosas and bagels with my friends at the hair salon. And, later, taking pictures under the enormous tree beside the church. I remember walking down the aisle way too fast. And, I remember Lawrence Temfwe’s exclamation of celebration (I have no other way to describe it). The reception was a blur. I remember being so tired and hungry when we got into the limo.  I don’t think we talked to each other very much on our way to the hotel–we were stuffing our faces with the basket of food put together for us by the caterer.

Most of all I remember being ready. Even though I was young (23), I felt like officially joining my life with Will was a good move. And, the total of the last three years have solidified that feeling. Of course there are moments when I don’t like Will very much (and I’m sure the same is true for him with me). Sometimes I don’t like my mom either (sorry mom).

The point of what I’m trying to say: choosing to love another person is tough but worth it.
